What are the key Airflow Management best practices?

Improving Airflow Management is vital if cooling systems are to be optimised to improve energy efficiency.

Initial steps include:

• Ensure that floor grilles are only located in cold aisles.
• Seal any openings in the #raisedfloor with KoldLok raised floor grommets or RackSEAL Floor foam sheets.
• At #serverrack level make sure unused #rackspace is sealed with blanking panels, and that gaps between mounting rails and cabinet sides, and gaps under racks are sealed to prevent hot exhaust air circulating back to the front of the rack.
• Implement an Aisle Containment system.

After each step is completed, it is possible to optimise cooling at CRAC level.

What is Aisle Containment?

Aisle Containment provides a way of segregating hot exhaust air from the cold conditioned air used to cool #ITequipment. Preventing these two airstreams from mixing is part of airflow management best practice and helps allow cooling optimisation gains to be made.

There are two main formats for Aisle Containment:

• Cold Aisle Containment where the cold aisle is contained.
• Hot Aisle Containment where the hot aisle is contained and the hot exhaust air is guided into the ceiling plenum to be returned to the CRAC units.

• Our Aisle Containment solutions can be designed to be supported from the raised floor, or suspended from overhead structural ceiling grids, containment often used within #Hyperscale environments.
• Aisle Containment systems can be designed to suit the scalable fit-out of the Data Centre with the provision of removable adjustable modular infill panels that are easily removed when new racks need to be deployed.
• Doors can be sliding or swing, single or double, with soft close features.
