The benefits of a summer seasonal job
National Careers Service
Our advisers are available online every weekday from 8am- 8pm and between 10am-5pm every Saturday.
Businesses often need extra help over the summer as things get busier – and there are some great benefits to taking on a part- or full-time seasonal job.
Any seasonal job you do might help you:
Look at sectors that become busier over summer, like hospitality, childcare and tourism, to see if there are seasonal jobs available.
Some roles will be wanted urgently and may only be advertised for a short period of time, so keep a regular eye on websites and social media groups.
When you find something you want to apply to, make sure your CV is up-to-date and you write a cover letter focused on the role. You can find tips on how to write a CV , how to write a cover letter and advice on interviews on our website.

Caroline’s seasonal job success
Caroline took on a seasonal role at an ice cream parlour, and came to the National Careers Service for support on what to do when it ended.
Caroline’s career adviser worked with her to explore some career aspirations. They then updated and enhanced Caroline’s CV, showing her skills and capabilities she didn’t realise she had. This helped boost Caroline’s confidence and self-esteem.
Feeling positive after her meeting with her careers adviser, Caroline approached the owner of the ice cream parlour to ask about taking on a permanent role as a manager – which was successful. Caroline’s seasonal role led her to a full-time role and career progression, with the support of the National Careers Service.
Don’t forget the National Careers Service is here to help. You can chat to an adviser online or via the helpline on 0800 100 900 (lines are open every weekday from 8am- 8pm and between 10am-5pm every Saturday), or take a look at careers advice on our website .
