Will Benefits and Requirements

Will Benefits and Requirements

A Will is a legal document that sets out the instructions for the distribution of your estate.

If you have a Will:

  • You can decide who will receive, how much they can receive, and when they will receive the distribution of your estate.
  • You may appoint someone you trust to care for your minor or special needs dependent.
  • Your beneficiaries are clear about the intention of your distribution and wishes.

If you do not have a Will:

  • Your estate will be distributed following the Intestate Succession Act.
  • Your minor or special needs dependent may not be taken care of by someone of your choice.
  • Your assets allocation may take months or years to settle.
  • It may destroy your family's harmony when your beneficiaries are unhappy with the distribution.

Requirements of a Will

  • The Will must be made in writing.
  • You must be at least 21 years old.
  • You must sign the Will at the foot of the Will.
  • Must be witnessed by two or more witnesses.
