Years ago, Tony Shepley , owner of Shepley Wood Products , told me something that I have never forgotten.? He and I were discussing a candidate and I asked if he had any concerns about his age.? He said, “Mark, to me, it’s not the age, but the spark that is most important.”? That was back in 2008 and I have used that phrase many, many times over the years.? As I enjoy my 61 years on this earth, I find myself more defensive of the “Old Dude”, being one myself.? While youth and innovation often take the spotlight, the wisdom and experience of older workers can be a valuable asset to any organization. Let’s explore the advantages of hiring older employees and why they are a crucial component of a successful team.

Supply Chain Leader
1 年I've been doing Supply Chain/Sourcing/Purchasing for so long, it's easy to feel like I've seen it all, but I haven't. No two problems are the same. There are different supply markets, different employees, different customers, and problems unique to how each company has developed. I think it's important that we don't lean too much on our experience and become rigid in our thinking. I try to approach every new situation with a beginner's mind. Be open to new ideas and even apply old ideas in new, creative ways, and don't be the person who won't try because "that won't work here".
