Benefits of having pets - Dog day...well, cats for me-

In January of this year, I lost Inny after 16 years to a brain tumor. On April 16, Unha collapsed from depression after losing her longtime friend.?

Me? I needed to put my pieces back together. I had the best business year ever, the best team ever, great friends, and I got back to studying for my second Master’s internationally, but I was still a mess.

My friend David, pointed out that I needed to get 2 more cats, ASAP.

My cats weren’t a handbag to be replaced by another new one. These 2 had a strong meaning to me. They were my pillar during the more terrible years of my life. I almost died because of a negligent accident, not walking, major surgeries, medical malpractice, moving, etc.?

A few weeks ago, a friend, started playing cute videos and pictures of 4 feral babies for me. The woman who had these four couldn’t keep them, and the mother was really young and couldn’t feed the kittens.

Ashley is becoming a good influence, so I agreed to take the 4 babies. A few days later, 2 of them changed or grew their real fur. 1 is a tuxedo, the other a calico…………..Inny and Unha were the same. Karma, sign, am I going crazy???

Long story short, they are coming home in 2 weeks, which is going to take a lot of work as they have issues and they need extra care. Do I mind? Of course, I don’t.

The names are as follows: the 2 orange ones are vodka and tonic, the Calico is Bourbon [in honor of Red], and the Tux is Cooper.

Why should we save pets and adopt them?

Having pets offers a wide range of benefits that positively impact both mental and physical health. Here are some of the key advantages:

Mental Health Benefits

Stress and Anxiety Reduction: Pets, especially dogs and cats, are known to help reduce stress and anxiety. The act of petting an animal can lower cortisol levels, a stress hormone, and increase oxytocin, a feel-good hormone, which helps people feel calmer and less stressed.

Combat Loneliness: Pets provide companionship, which can ease feelings of loneliness. They offer unconditional love and support, which is particularly beneficial for those who live alone.

Improving Mood and Reducing Depression: Interacting with pets can boost mood and help alleviate symptoms of depression. They encourage mindfulness by living in the moment, which can help people focus on the present rather than dwelling on past or future worries.

Physical Health Benefits

Encouraging Exercise: Pets, particularly dogs, require regular walks and playtime, which encourages their owners to engage in physical activity. This can lead to improved cardiovascular health and help maintain a healthy weight.

Heart Health: Owning a pet has been associated with lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels, all of which contribute to a reduced risk of heart disease.

Healthy Aging: For older adults, pets can provide a sense of purpose and routine, which can improve overall quality of life and help manage conditions like dementia by reducing stress and loneliness.

Social Benefits

Increased Social Interaction: Pets can act as social catalysts, helping owners meet new people and form connections. Walking a dog, for example, often leads to interactions with other pet owners.

Support Networks: Having a pet can help build a stronger social support network, which is beneficial for mental health and well-being.

Overall, pets contribute significantly to improving both mental and physical health, providing companionship, encouraging a more active lifestyle, and enhancing social interactions. These benefits make pet ownership a rewarding experience for many people.

Conclusion:

Did I change since I knew these four were coming home? Hell, yes. I never saw so many toys, beds, and unnecessary things to pamper cats.

Thank God I had made the decision. My mood is in the best shape ever.

In honour of all the people who lost their loved one, those members of the family that don’t talk [well, sometimes they do], and fill our lives with unconditional love without asking for anything back.

Do you have pets?

My dogs might be as big as small ponies but they give just as much love. I can't Imagine my life without them. I also can't wait until your babies come home so I can love them too

I love animals, especially our fur babies. Cats are more independent, but need our love just as much as we need theirs. Dogs are always in your corner ready to play and give love. I hate it when investors capitalize (Pet rental fees) on these extensions of a family. Pets also give us an opportunity to teach our children responsibility, self respect, empathy, finances, etc. Susan, I'm happy you are able to fill in the void. They'll be there through the next 16+ years of ups and downs in this next chapter of life.
