The consumption of beer, and especially craft beer, is an integral part what is known as Gastro-communitas, defined as “An intense community spirit that allows everyone (locals and tourists alike) to equally share in memorable common gastronomic experiences.” (Williams, Bauman, Yuan & Williams, 2019)
This article (below) describes the value of beer as a key ingredient to the health and vibrancy of the community. I join with people like Apiwe, Patricia, Zoleka, CBASA, and BASA, and others to suggest the evaluation of the decision to close beer sales; to consider both the short- and long-term benefits to Community of some form of operation and sales.

Craft-breweries of all sizes contribute to the overall gastronomic reputation and highlight how the open, friendly, inclusive, brewery ethos and “brand soul communitas” can help to positively shape an area’s unique local tourism culture – the area’s unique story!
We're not suggesting to open the craft breweries to operate as ususal - stay home since social distancing WORKS! But find a way to allow take-out, delivery, etc. to keep the craft brewers alive, to be ready to take advantage of gasto-communitas once things are better.
Our research can help brewery owners and destination developers who wish to initiate brewery-led local gastro-tourism development.
Please contact me for a copy of the paper on gastro-communitas. And stay safe.
