Benefits of counselling

Did you know worldwide, Christmas is one of the loneliest times for individuals? If you suffer from Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) or don't have any friends or family that you feel particularly close to... the festive season may bring up mixed emotions.

Counselling or therapy of is a good relief. Are you about to have your first counselling session or considering having a session? If you are feeling unsure, then read this to understand what you can expect from the experience:

The role of a Counsellor is to provide a safe and assuring space for you to tell your inside stories. You can expect that they will facilitate a collaborative talk therapy session and help establish goals to improve the conditions or habits in your life.

Rest assure that qualified and experienced counsellors will always maintain strict confidentiality for everything you share with them. The only exception to this is if you share anything that suggests there is risk of any self-harm or harm to another person, legally, this is required to be disclosed to the authorities such as the emergency departments or police.

At the end of a meaningful session, you and the Counsellor should be able to establish strategies that you can refer to… to bring about realistic and positive changes in your life. If there are areas in your life that you are not happy with and it is creating stressors or frustrations, it’s a good idea to get support.
