Benefits of 3D Building Modelling For Your Business
Drone Evolution
One of the UK’s leading Nationwide Drone Services - Quicker, Cheaper, Safer than manual forms of inspection
Technological improvements are constantly being invented and it's hard to keep up with this fast paced digital economy. In such a competitive market, it's important now more than ever to understand what new services are being provided and how they can help your business. At Drone Evolution, we're aiming to break down any barriers and make this information as easy to understand and accessible as possible, so you can then make informed decisions for your business. ?
What is 3D Building Modelling?
3D modelling is the process of creating three-dimensional representations of an object or a surface using cutting edge technology.
During the 3D modelling process, you can determine the buildings size, shape, and site perimeters, allowing you to view the asset from all sides and angles. Rather than just having 2D images or sketches of a building, it allows for a true representation with the added bonus of interactive features, such as close zoom.
How Does 3D Building Modelling Work?
In basic terms, a drone will fly around the external of the chosen object, taking lots of photos from different angles to capture all of the surfaces. These photos are then stitched together using the latest online software, which creates a 3D artefact of the chosen object, in which you can zoom in and out, swivel to view different sides and even view the actual photo that was taken of a specific spot. There are then multiple different output sources for you to receive your 3D model depending on personal preference, including rendering models on a secure platform (such as your website), point cloud, 3D model export, orthomosaic image and import into CAD/GIS application.
This is a perfect way to create building stock records.

Why Is 3D Building Modelling Needed?
Versatility – You can digitally look around the external of a building that represents exactly how it would look in person. You can zoom in onto different features to get a close up on different areas, as well as having access to the raw photos that were taken
Easier to visualise and present - You can view the artefact digitally anywhere in the world, without having to be physically present at the site. This allows for so much more flexibility, meaning you can send the model to stakeholders with just a click of a button
Quicker – The whole process takes a matter of hours with a drone, and then you can access the high-res images and the 3D model easily. Less faff and faster results.
More effective than manual inspection– So you can hire someone to come and manually take photos, sketch a 2D drawing and gather building records, or you can hire a drone pilot for the afternoon, who will be able to complete this?more efficiently and reach areas people can't reach safely. All of this whilst safely stood on the ground at all times with no risk to human life. It also produces a more accurate representation of the building and reduces human error.
It's more time efficient, safer and cheaper than manual forms of inspection
Who can benefit from 3D Modelling?
Anyone who needs to capture the complete building as is, after a condition assessment on the property, or accurate information for building stock records.
