Bend but don’t break

Bend but don’t break

You get knocked down, but you get up again.

In this article we’ll focus on one important quality that helps you bounce back from setbacks.

This single quality — which you can build— helps you handle life’s events, and how well you survive them.

That quality is resilience — the ability to rebound from challenge, setbacks, and crisis.

Shit happens

You can't always control what happens to you.

But you can control your beliefs about misfortune, and how you act in the face of this.

Resilience is the value that allows us to face the world head on. It is the quality that enables us to take risks, to reach out to others.

Your Thick skin

Evaluate your coping and resiliency style right now. Do you go into things head on or crumble at the slightest change of circumstance.

Look at your food history, exercise session or think back to a recent setback. How did you react to obstacles and challenges?

There is no wrong answer, so be honest.

Now, how.s this working for you? How is your coping style helping you? Hindering you?

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger

This is often a term said, but we all deal with crap in our lives in different ways. While some are able to pull through hardship, others can be more of a struggle.

Research has shown for some its in our DNA, but other research shows its more to it than simple biology.

What has been highlighted, is the importance of training ourselves to go with the punches.

Today, try acting and thinking like your the most optimistic person on the planet and see what happens.

Recall a time when you were resilient.

Even the most pessimistic of us have bounced back on occasion.

Think of a situation in which you were resilient, even just a little bit. What skills did you use to help yourself bounce back?

How could you do more of that?

High-five yourself for each occasion when you show resilience.

You probably do it a lot more than you think.

Remember, resilience gets better the more you do it. Keep practicing.

Look for evidence

Very likely, you're already pretty resilient, even if you don't always recognize it.

Look for evidence. In the past, how have you demonstrated one or more of these resilient behaviors or beliefs?

What obstacles have you already overcome? How have you already been a survivor?

Make some lifestyle changes.

There are some general changes that you can make to your lifestyle that could help you feel more able to cope with pressure and stressful situations.
