THE BENCH: POWER or PURPOSE?
Everyone or should I say anyone that has ever exercised or lifted a weight or even been in a team sport knows that some people just have a unique POWER, sometimes this power is pure what we might call BRUTE strength, they just seem to be always physically stronger in how much they lift ( by the way never assume a big muscle is big strength, it is not). Some have just a skill like throwing a baseball or shooting a basketball or dribbling the soccer ball down the field you just watch and think they have a gift, they seem to do the impossible and I practice and practice and they are just better. Leaders will see people walk on a stage and seem to be so charismatic you think how do I match this?
Now for a little story and a real power fact. When I was very young, like in 7th grade, we all went to a school where 4 schools all merged together. At my grade school I was always one of the more athletic kids and bigger that others and stronger( hard to believe as I am only 5'7" now. So here I arrive and in walks this new kid we are like the same height, but he already has a beard, looks like a mini Mr.America and in 7th grade. Fast forward 3 years, we are now both on the wrestling team, I am at the 167 lb slot, strong as an ox and doing fine, he is at the 180 lb slot, we are both about the same height. He is not working out nor never did, I mean zero but now looks like he is Mr. America, all muscle and fast, so here is this 9th grader that at 180 lbs. destroys every kid in the weight class and is the runner up for state champion as a 9th grader at 180 where most are seniors and brutally strong. Just a freak of nature, but now the purpose part. I kept pushing myself, relentless daily logs and work outs, I also knew that I loved to wrestle but my future needed a strong mind as well so I did it all. The time we hit our senior year the 180 lb wrestler no longer wrestled, he was now 245 lbs. He got a full ride football scholarship but did not make the cut once in college because he was over 275 and only 5'9" and they said you need to loose 50 lbs. He had no purpose , he had all the power no purpose end of a legend.
You see in being a leader, some come to this world with skills but never find that purpose so those skills are nice, they seems shiny and great at first, but I always watch and eventually, sadly see they lack a purpose, or the purpose is selfish ME purpose, more salary, more bonus, bigger home, expensive cars but what is the core reason they are in the role and do what they do, the other things come if you have a purpose.
POWER with out PURPOSE versus PURPOSE with POWER, the second always, I mean always wins in the long run. FIND YOUR PURPOSE!
