?????? ???????? ?????????????? ?????????? ???? ????????????, ???????? ??????’?? ???????? ???????? ??????’???? ????????????

I usually have a couple of guys drop the McDonalds line on me every month

Typically whilst we’re chatting about whether we’d be a good fit for some coaching together

And when they say it?

To me it sounds and feels like a badge of honour

Something they’re proud of

(usually followed or preceded by “we eat healthily as a family”)

Almost saying it to show me they’re doing the right thing, waiting for me to nod in agreement from the other side of our Zoom call

That they’re actively making better choices for their children and protecting them from overprocessed, high calorie, low nutritional value food and drink

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

But two things here:

1. Your ACTIONS speak louder than your WORDS - And it’s kind of ironic.....

You don’t let your kids have McDonalds, yet you yourself regularly overeat, overdrink and generally treat the only body and mind you have with disrespect

Most likely to soothe the pain of living for the weekends, which then go so quickly you’re back to the “square one of dread” come Sunday afternoon

(I don’t miss that sinking feeling on what’s supposed to be a day of rest)

Bottom line = Your kids see, hear and feel everything, even if you don’t

2. Is it the food itself or the idea you object to? - Because if you actually take the time to look at what comes out of the Golden Arches....

Whether it’s some of the better choice options they now have available

Or simply looking at the nutrition info of your usual Big Mac / Chicken Selects / Big Tasty

And compare that to your typical evening meal at home

(plates overflowing with food, carbs, sauces and then seconds or whatever’s left on plates)

I bet the calorie and protein numbers aren’t as far apart as you might think

But obviously if it’s the “idea” of everything being more processed

Or simply you sticking a finger to the Corporate machine

** Then that’s fair enough, personal preference and all that **

Bottom line = Context and balance are important principles not to lose sight of

So my friend.....

> What’s your view? Pop your thoughts in the comments....

>> Are you a McDonald’s fan? A protester? Somewhere in the middle?

(maybe “fan” is too strong for most people)

For what it’s worth, as a family we do eat McDonald’s and we enjoy it as a family

My personal preference....

- 5-piece chicken selects

- Zero calorie soft drink (you might call it Bloke Coke)

- A pot of BBQ sauce

All told that’s 683 calories and 43g protein (if you’re a numbers kind of guy)

And I would bet similar to or better than many of your main meals out there

** PAINFUL ACTION TASK **

Just to be sure where you are overall, do yourself a favour:

> Step 1: Find a tape measure (one of those soft ones rather that the sword like one you use for DIY)

> Step 2: Measure the distance around your stomach at belly button height

> Step 3: If that measurement is more than 94cm, send me a message

(because you my friend carry an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, as per NHS guidance)

Be strong,

Ben

P.S. - That bit about cardiovascular disease isn’t just me making stuff up to get you to finally do something about your bulge, your low energy and your crappy mood
