Belmont in Hollywood 2023

The Belmont USA program's "Belmont in Hollywood," is currently underway in Los Angeles.

An immersive, summer work opportunity for selected motion picture production or movie and television writing students to apply classroom learning to specific career goals within the film industry.

Each student completes an eight-week internship while on site where they gain practical skills in state-of-the-art technical facilities and are exposed to the expertise of renowned producers, directors, screenwriters, cinematographers & agents.

Dave Warburton, manager of film and recording studios, visited students on-site and provided students with incredible tour and networking opportunities.

The cover photo is from Universal Studios Sound Department where Dave took students and recent alumni to tour Universal's post-production sound facilities. The group was able to meet Brent Findley, the award-winning sound editor of “Ted Lasso," “White House Plumbers,” “The Good Place” and hundreds of other movies and shows.?

Findley spent a few hours with the students and taught them the process of building the soundscape for a scene with sound recorded in production, sound effects, foley, ADR and music.?He showed them how all of these different elements work together to help tell the story that’s happening on the screen.?

The students also visited an ADR Stage used for recording dialog and voiceover, digital mastering stages used for creating “home theater versions” of theatrical released movies, and multiple post-audio mixing stages that have worked on some of the biggest movies and television shows of all time.??

?The above photo pictures Belmont in Hollywood students with Warburton and his friend Rand Geiger, a multiple Emmy nominated film and television producer best known for such projects as “Stranger Things,”?"Shadow and Bone,” “The Adam Project,” “Free Guy,” and the upcoming mini-series “All the Light We Cannot See.”?

The students enjoyed conversation with Geiger on everything from what his job as a physical producer entails, how to be a good PA or assistant, the WGA strike, the importance of networking (and how it doesn’t have to be a dirty word), and which film from the “Twilight” series was the best.?(The correct answer is “New Moon”).?
