Bell Let’s Talk 2023: A Message from the PSPC Ombud, Mental Health
For Bell Let’s Talk Day on January?25, I would like to focus on the importance of addressing workplace issues early on. Whether you are living or observing the issues, immediate action prevents unresolved and additional negative effects on our well-being and that of our colleagues at Public Services and Procurement Canada.
As we formally transition to our hybrid workplace, I look forward to coaching employees and managers on how to address concerns early, build and preserve strong and positive work relationships, and foster a safe and productive workplace.
Although change is not always easy, we should allow ourselves to test various approaches, be flexible, and take the time to adapt. My own experimentation with the hybrid model allowed me to notice the many changes that help create a more positive workplace. These include more opportunities for brainstorming, innovation, mentoring, growth, and an increased sense of belonging through human to human social connections.
The powerful conversations surrounding the development of team charters present an opportunity to discuss and agree on your team’s “social contract”. Among many other benefits, team charters keep us grounded and help prevent and resolve workplace issues. They represent, flexibility, civility, and respect. These are the building blocks of a healthy and high performing organization.
My team is committed to being there for you every step of the way.
I invite you to keep the conversation on mental health alive by participating with your teams to mental health events throughout the year.
It is my hope that through open and honest dialogue, we will continue to build a healthy hybrid workplace for everyone.
