... For Believing In Our Mission

As a Raleigh native and product of the Wake County Public Schools System (Enloe HS, c/o 1988), I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with our incredibly talented and dedicated team in serving the students, parents and schools of Wake during my tenure as the President of Communities In Schools of Wake County. After seven very rewarding years, I am leaving the organization to pursue other interests.

I want to thank all of our community stakeholders who have helped us advance our mission and have supported our cause. Indeed, since October 2010, together with the board, management team, staff, partners, donors and volunteers we have accomplished great things together.

MILESTONES ACHIEVED:

  • Expanded both academic enrichment services (offered after school at school and community sites) and academic case management services (offered through "Graduation Coaches" embedded within Wake County Public Schools).
  • Launched the SMART Academy to provide reading and math enrichment to over 2,000 students during Weekend School, Track-out Camp, Summer Camp and EOG Camps.
  • Expanded school-based programs to directly serve over 2,500 students through a summer reading program (READS) partnership with Harvard at 9 Wake County Schools and through Graduation Coaches embedded at 8 Wake County Schools from 2012-2016.
  • Successfully helped over 400 high school students recover course credit by using on-line programs deployed in a blended learning environment.
  • Won Band Together Award in 2012 raising over $650 K by 2014.
  • Achieved organizational recognition as a GlaxoSmithKline Impact Award Winner in 2013 and Red Hat's designation as Non-Profit of the Year in 2013.
  • Delivered over 3,500 backpacks of school supplies to students in Wake County.

STUDENT PERFORMANCE:

  • 97% of students have met attendance goals.
  • 95% of students have been promoted to the next grade level.
  • 98% of seniors have graduated.

I am confident in the leadership of the CIS Wake Board of Directors and staff who will continue to empower the at promise students of our county to "stay in school and achieve in life."
