Believe In Your Team's Potential Through Learning and Growth

A key lesson from Ted Lasso is the power of believing in your people. When Lasso took over an English soccer team, despite knowing nothing about soccer himself, he came in absolutely believing the team could reach new heights.

How did he activate that potential? By instilling confidence through positive reinforcement and opportunities for growth.

Lasso took the time to study soccer himself so he could better coach his new sport and team. He made continuous learning a core value, assessing skill gaps, providing resources, and carving out time for his team's development.

Even when the players doubted themselves, Lasso demonstrated belief by giving them avenues to gain new knowledge and skills. His commitment to their growth communicated unwavering confidence in what they could achieve.

The best leaders see capabilities in their teams that the team doesn't see itself. They invest in professional learning to unlock that potential. Belief paired with development creates a culture of achievement, helping teams exceed expectations.

Does your leadership reflect a Ted Lasso-style belief in the potential of your people? Are you giving them opportunities to gain the knowledge and skills to realize that potential? The growth mindset of a leader has the power to uplift teams to astonish themselves with what they can accomplish.

What lessons on believing in your team's potential have you applied or seen in your leadership journey? I welcome your insights below!

Ted Lasso is such a great show. My favorite is "Be a goldfish..." Goldfish (apparently) have a 30 second memory. Be angry or frustrated for 30 seconds and then....MOVE ON!
