Believe In Your People

Your employees are the most important factor in the success of your business. They can make or mar your business. It’s high time organizations begin to value their employees in the real sense of the word.

Your faith in people provides the light that makes them feel bigger than they are and want to do more than they think they can do.

The policies may stop a product line you are into, but can’t stop your business. Only your employees have such powers. You may not have the start-up capital for your business, but if your employees believe in what you are doing, they will commit to making your business work.

Like the strategy of the Trojan Horse, businesses can only be destroyed from within. No business has ever been destroyed from the outside without the consent of people on the inside. Your employees are on the inside. Knowing how important your employees are to the wellbeing of your business should make every business person value them.

To ensure that your employees stand for the good of your business, you need to believe in them. By personally believing in them to help them bring out the best in them. They will come to the workplace each day with their own best. Belief is like fuel to the soul of humans. We all need someone who will believe in us.

People will go to great lengths to make things happen for your company if you will believe in them. You will be amazed at what they can come up with to move your business forward.

I believe that employers who do not believe in themselves cannot believe in their employees. Some employers and managers may not have had someone who believes in them so it’s hard for them to pass it on. No one can give what they haven’t experienced.

If you really think your people are your greatest asset then you have to demonstrate that by showing them that you believe in them. Here are different ways to demonstrate to your employees that you believe in them:

Allow People To Think For Themselves: You have to allow them to think and come up with ideas. When they come up with an idea, don’t argue with them or show them it’s not workable. Use that idea as the foundation for a bigger idea. Make the idea bigger and give them credit for the idea. There is no way people will be convinced that you believe in them when you constantly shut down the ideas they come up with. Rather than try to prove to them that their ideas aren’t workable, try asking them questions that will make them refine the idea. Give them ownership of the idea and how to make the idea a reality.

Develop Their Confidence: When people know that someone believes in them, they will always act confidently when it comes to the person. Recognizing people for the good they do. When you want people to believe they can achieve an outcome, then show them you believe they can do it as Winston Churchill said, “If you want a person to demonstrate a virtue, input that virtue to him in advance.” Lavish those employees with praise in front of others for little improvements and small wins. That will make them feel good about themselves. It will make them more confident.

Challenge Them To Grow: Share with them the bigger and better future you are creating and what their share of that future is. Then push them out of their comfort zone. You have to provide coaching for them to grow and improve. Who they are can be a hindrance to whom they need to be. No organization can have a bigger future when the employees are not learning, growing, and improving. If you believe in your people you will invest in them to grow and become better. When they grow, they will constantly outperform their performance. Inspire them to do what they thought or have been told they cannot do.

Help Them With More Than Their Careers: If you really believe in your people, you will care for them as humans. You will do more for them than just help them with their careers. You will treat them in such a way that when they get home, they will treat their families well. Employers behave as if people don’t have a life outside work. Their lives at work affect their lives at home. Also their lives at home affect their life at work. Help them become better humans, listeners, connectors, and spouses. Jim Rohn said, “Learn to help people with more than just their jobs: help them with their lives.” Truly Human Companies have internal universities where they help their people become better humans and leaders and improve their relationships.

Empower Them To Reach Their Potential: The greatest influencer in people’s lives is not the one who achieves the greatest feats but the one who empowers the people to do great things. People doubt whether they have the ability to do great things. They need someone to believe in them. They need someone who will show them that they already have the ability to do great things. When employers control people or tell them what to do via job description, you are simply telling them you don’t believe they can do great things. To reach their potential, employees need freedom. They need to be free to fail, learn and improve and try again. Employers who believe in their people will create the right environment for their people to reach their potential.

Equip Them To Do Great Works: When you believe in people, you will provide them with the right resources to do their jobs and also provide them with the right skills to do great work. When you believe in your people you will equip them with the skills of communication, collaboration, problem-solving, relationships, value creation, and influence. They can only do great work when they have what to do it with. You provide them with all it takes to flourish and have meaningful experiences. That way they will be fulfilled knowing that who they are and what they do matters.
