Believe this...you choose what to believe
Looking back, at the beginning of my own spiritual “awakening”, I didn’t even realize it was happening. I like to think that I was always open-minded, and curious about new things. One of the things I recall early on in my spiritual “exposure” was that a friend at work was taking a hypnotherapy class and asked me if I would be a test subject. Well, that was an interesting new concept! One of the things she said was “it doesn’t matter if it’s real or not, if it’s in your subconscious mind and it comes up, then there must be a reason.” I took that as just use the information to help you or consider it entertaining, there is nothing to lose.
I’ve carried that idea forward with me in life and it has served me well because it helped me grasp the understanding that when something shows up for me, even though I may not understand it if it could help me, why not listen? Does it really matter if it’s “real” or not?
Consider the fact that almost all religions refer to angels. Most people have never seen an angel, yet they talk to them, pray to them, and seek guidance from them. It gives them comfort and peace to imagine the angels are there for guidance and protection. It does not negate the good that a person gains from their belief in angels just because they can’t prove whether they are there or not. Faith is an amazing energetic tonic, and most spiritual experiences are like that…no way to prove them.
But where does your faith really lie? Is your faith found in believing things that can’t be proven that don’t bring you what you want? If you aren’t experiencing the peace, love, happiness or abundance that you want, then maybe it’s time to take a look.
There is a part of us, our ego (little self) that is a master at convincing us to be faithful to the very things that keep us stuck. We continue to operate on beliefs that don’t help us achieve what we want… and all the while, these beliefs can’t be proven either. Then we cling to them with such conviction that we continue to feed them, and will even search for others to agree with us.
The beauty of this life is that we get to write our own story. We are the author, producer, director, the main character, and of course, we actually cast all the others involved in our individual play. And guess what? That means we get to choose what we believe. If you are operating on a belief that is not bringing you the results that you want, then you have the power to change it. Knowing this, owning this, you can be responsible for how your life evolves, and readily change things that aren’t to your liking.
We get tripped up thinking that all choices we made in the past were set in stone. They aren’t…you have free will and can always change your mind. You are a different person now than when you first made the choice. As we grow and expand, an earlier decision may no longer serve us, but that doesn’t mean we were wrong when we first made it.
Changing your mind because you want a new experience doesn’t mean that you have to justify it in any way…not to yourself and certainly not to others.
You are allowed to change your mind without the need to explain it in a way that others can accept it. Other people will see it in the way they perceive it, from their experiences and point of view, so it’s not possible for you to make them happy about your choices. The only person this it’s guaranteed you must live with your entire life is you. That’s why it’s important to be good with yourself first and foremost.
Be willing to go within and dare I say prove yourself wrong. Only then will you be willing to look at things differently and change what really needs to change.
