In reality the word “Believe” means to accept as true, or truthful, or to be of the opinion that something exists or is a reality, especially when there is no absolute proof of its existence or reality. The word believe is an inspirational word often used in a religious setting and has been the key word in many songs. Neil Diamond composed the song “I’m A Believer” recorded by the band The Monkees in 1966. One year later The Monkees recorded another song, “Daydream Believer” both of which hit number one on the U. S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Cher’s hit “Believe”; the biggest hit of her career was the number one song for 15 weeks in 1998 giving it one of the longest runs ever at number one. The word “believe” has a fascination or mystery about it. What do you believe is true even though you can not prove it?
Disneyland in Anaheim, California, a place where dreams and imagination are around every corner and at every turn introduced a program in 2000 as part of the 45th Anniversary celebration. Believe…There’s Magic in the Stars was the theme of the popular evening fireworks show that was so popular it ran until late 2004.
I share this information and short stories with you to show the importance believing has in every person’s life. How each of us longs for the qualities believing brings to our lives. The faith, the dreams, the trust, and the imagination a believer has will take him to new destinations in life. When it comes to this subject, I only hope that each of you believes in yourself as much as I believe in you.
If you dream of taking on new challenges, you have to believe in yourself. Problem is many people do not, they doubt their thoughts, and second guess their ambitions. It is imperative you become a person of positive thinking if you plan to become a believer. Following are ten recommended thought processes for every believer to focus on in build their character.
10 Character Builders of Believers
Is Dedicated – Is wholeheartedly devoted to a goal, cause or dream.
Faith in Others – Belief in, devotion to, or trust in somebody or something, especially without logical proof. Strong held set of principals.
Stays Committed – Remains entrusted and steadfast. Unwavering and persistent to reach the goal.
Strives to Succeed – Tries hard to make significant progress to accomplish successful results. Looks for a desired measurable positive outcome.
Builds Confidence – Develops faith in own talents. Has a self-assurance that views and abilities are of value to others.
Intellectually Akin - Having a highly developed ability to think, reason, and understand related subjects, especially in combination with a wide knowledge, rather than using emotions.
Trustful and Loyal - Expected by others to behave responsibly and honorably, remaining faithful to a country, person, ruler, government, or ideal. Dependable and dedicated to a cause.
Can Accept as True - To acknowledge that something is real or genuine prior to being able to prove it. Having the ability to see the big picture before you can justify or authenticate it.
Faith in Yourself – Being able to trust your own actions based on loyalty to self, prior successes. The ability to stay committed, resulting in a sense of responsibility or devotion to duty that builds self esteem.
Can Visualize the Future – Willing to create a vivid positive mental picture of an event that has not yet happened, such as a desired outcome to a problem or challenge, in order to promote a sense of well-being. Dreams of opportunities with measurable goals.
True believers have unique qualities allowing them to look into the future with their imagination to see what could be. True believers also have the stamina and the wherewithal to churn out the necessary required effort needed to make what they believe in reality. You can not persuade a believer; for their belief is not based on evidence, it’s based on a firmly unseated need to believe. Believers will go the extra mile, work the extra hours, and make the needed sacrifices to insure what they believe in is successful.
Question? Do you believe in miracles? I’ve seen too many not to. Miracles usually come to fruition because someone believed they would. It has also been said that there are no miracles for those who do not believe in them. This again accentuates the power of believing. So believe in yourself and all you do, believers are miracle makers. For the believer nothing is impossible, for our only limitations are those we place on ourselves. There is no difficulty that can not be overcome. Never believe in defeat. If you have your eye on the goal, you’ll find a way, if you don’t you’ll find an excuse.
Believe in Others, It’s Contagious
The quality of believing in others is a trait that will build your character in the eyes of others. If you have the vision to believe in another person before he is successful, you will be of great benefit to that person. Believing and inspiring someone who has not yet made the grade requires the ability to see the undeveloped potential in another person. In sharing your belief in others, you take on a role of motivating them to have further belief in themselves, therefore promoting additional momentum. Believing breeds hope and faith that results in a desired outcome.
Everyone is eager to jump on the band wagon and believe in a winner. I have seen it many times with sports teams and in groups. If they are a losing team, the supporters are thin and the naysayers are out. However if they put together a little winning streak, the believers come out of the woodwork. A true believer sticks with it through thick and thin. Temporary set backs are not of concern, only the focus on the big picture is what matters.
I have found a few excellent tools that work in supporting others to believe in themselves. By believing passionately in something that does not exist, it can be created. When using these methods of inspiring others to believe in themselves, they will also believe in their dreams. Each of these will keep them on track, believing it is true and possible, even though it cannot be proven.
