Belief

We all have been hearing about ‘believing’ & also been taught to ‘believe’ in ourselves before we take up any duty or a profession or start a discussion or maybe talk in front of 10,000 personalities.
Is that easy to start ‘believing’ in something without being uncomfortable?
As a child, we all are much-admired and praised to take the first step or do something on our own. That’s when we start to ‘believe’, Yes we can do it! We are supported by everyone around us to make us comfortable taking that first step, making that first move towards a task. Steadily over the time, we start to make our decisions in various different situations whether it be comfortable or uncomfortable for us, with minimal support of people around us which we also ‘believe’ is life, full of opportunities with some high’s but many low’s, resembling our heartbeat.
Initial juncture of any sports-persons journey who wishes to make history through his\her dedication not just towards the game, but towards his\her thoughts, to people who are around for support at any given moment whether it be joy or sorrow and also to the process through which she\he went through for 10,000 hours to achieve that one ‘moment of greatness’.
Playing a sport is not just a game for people who create history & achieve greatness, it’s a way of life, it’s not just one sport we are talking about, it can be football, tennis, cricket, basketball, table tennis, squash, gymnastics, rowing, car racing, etc.
The list is huge but that ‘belief’ makes all the difference to those, who wish to follow their passion and love for the respective sport.
It would start with Rahul Dravid, Michael Jordan, Roger Federer, Niki Lauda, Serena Williams, Usain Bolt, Sachin Tendulkar, Michael Phelps, Sir Vivian Richards, Billie Jean King, Major Dhyan Chand, Dhanraj Pillay, Leander Paes, Lebron James, P V Sindhu, Lee Chong Wei and can go on till young U-13, U-17 and U-21 athletes, but the factor that made a difference in each of these legends lives was the ‘belief in the process' whether it be acclimatizing to situation, successes or fatalities, training or reaction to adverse trait’s from the society.
Dr. Swaroop Savanur (Visiting Faculty, Symbiosis School of Sports Sciences) quotes:
Belief, is having real trust in your process and having faith in your destiny.
India being a diverse society, the first hurdle to cross would be ‘active start’ phase in terms of Talent identification and recognition process (Istvan Balyi, 2005 | Canadian long term Athlete development program (LTADP)). Being associated with various sporting authorities and coaches with respect to talent identification and development as a long term prospect or as we call them “high potentials” as well as “high performers” of our sporting society, we have been told many times ‘catch them young’, but we have been exposed to critical aspects of athlete training psychology by sports scientists and LTAD program experts to,
‘Catch them at the right Time, for the right Sport’.
Is it just about the believing factor? for athletes and the support system around the athlete for his\her success at the World stage or is it about the combination of multiple stages to make complete the ecosystem around the athlete for long term development and success?
How does the believing factor closely related to, F-U-N aspect at a very young age for athletes as part of the identification process within the sports ecosystem!!
