The Belgian LinkedIn Monitor (2.0) - January 2023

The Belgian LinkedIn Monitor (2.0) - January 2023

Today I start my?4th year of the monthly barometer for LinkedIn usage in Belgium, called the Belgian LinkedIn Monitor.?I started this because I was getting a lot of requests from people to better understand LinkedIn members in Belgium.

The Belgian LinkedIn Member

?The January version will uniquely focus on Belgium.?In February I will compare to our surrounding neighbors and in March I will expand to Europe, the USA, and the rest of the World

?LinkedIn grew worldwide by more than 2 members/second while Belgium add 1 new member every 2 minutes

?

  • Today, we are 875 million users on LinkedIn and that is a staggering growth of 75 million from January 2022 (of course the numbers will be updated in the course of January but these were the numbers featured on the LinkedIn website on Jan 1).
  • In Belgium, we grew with about 220.000 new members which is a bit of a slowdown vs 2021.

From an advertising point of view, we now have an audience of 4.7 million (residents and travelers) which is in line with the growth of the LinkedIn member base.?At any time, there are about 500K members traveling through Belgium.

?Time to turn our attention to the activity levels on LinkedIn.

More Belgians created content in 2022 than in 2021.?The overall average for year crossed the 4% barrier

December was the 2nd best month for Content Creation. With 4.39% (180K content creators that posted on LinkedIn). We ended the year with average over 4% of the Belgians that created content on LinkedIn.?There was a .1% growth from 2021 to 2022 which means that the number of Content Creators actually grew!

The number of Belgian grew substantially in 2022 (from 130K to 180K)

In the year of Quiet Quitting, the number of people that have changed jobs in the (rolling) last 3 months has not increased much.?The number went from 1.59% to 1.74%.?In actual numbers of course this represents only 5K extra.

On the other hand we continue to see a drop in vacancies (jobs) on LinkedIn.?In December, there were 87K jobs listed in Belgium.?Compared with 2021, the average number dropped from 128K to 92K.

So what does a Belgian LinkedIn look like?

Here are some interesting facts:

  • The 25-35 age group dominates LinkedIn with over 57%!
  • There are more men than women on LinkedIn. There are 11% people that do not say their gender
  • Flanders is by far the farming ground for LinkedIn.
  • There are 34% dutch profiles, 32% french and 31% English profiles
  • 38% of the members are between Entry and Senior which are the 2 next categories
  • Sales out performs Operations when it comes to functions while Professional Services outperforms Manufacturing

What we really want to know is how much time a LinkedIn user spends on the platform.?If these numbers are still valid one sometimes has to question why we are using LinkedIn

“However, LinkedIn is used sparingly, so you only have a few minutes to make an impact. Users only spend about 17 minutes on LinkedIn per?month.” Source: Kinsta (Dec 2022)?

?“According to data shared by Similarweb, the?average time?a LinkedIn user spends is 7 minutes and 38 seconds on the platform per visit. On average, they also visit seven pages per visit.?“ Source:?Similarweb (nov

?LinkedIn users spend less than 1 minute per day on LinkedIn!

?Time for some real data to be released by LinkedIn on this subject matter.

?And then LinkedIn is on the move

Linkedin is slowly getting to 100 new features in 2022!?What an achievement.

Here are 5 of the discoveries of December, there are more so do take a look at the post from Kevin D. Turner for the full list.

The takeaway for me in this, Mic, is just how little time people spend on average on LinkedIn. Still, the important thing is for the RIGHT people to spend time here. Right meaning people who are our target audience.

As usual, interesting stats Mic. Thanks also for the mention. Although Belgium growth isn't that big, compared to the growth worldwide, still new Belgium members are joining. I prefer steady growth more than a sudden peak, what about you?
