Being Your Own Best Advocate

Everyone needs to be their own best advocate when they enter the healthcare system. Why? Let me provide a few reasons:

  • Medical Errors are the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States. Studies show that when the patient and his/her family are part of the process medical errors can be avoided.
  • Healthcare is expensive. Most people are paying more and more of the cost of healthcare. Studies show when patients are involved in their care, care is safer, more efficient and cost-effective
  • The healthcare system is difficult to navigate. Knowing who is who and how to work with all members of the healthcare team will help decrease fragmentation and make the system more user-friendly.

In this week’s post, I tried something new…..I recorded a presentation that talks about how you can be your own Best Advocate. The post shares important tips you can implement right away!

Take a few minutes to listen to the recording. To listen and watch the video, click here.

Let me know your thoughts and what tips you have for being your own best advocate.
