Being in the world VS being in your head

Being in the world VS being in your head

Last week in our community, one of the members brought up a question.

The question was around what that person should do and what could happen if they did it.

As we looked at the question and I reflected upon it, I got to share the distinction between being in your head vs being in the world.

When it comes to performing (and by that, I mean anything action-related), our ability to distinguish the domain of head (you having a conversation with yourself inside your head) and the domain of world (the world you see when you have your eyes open) is of fundamental importance.

Most of our problems occur only inside the domain of being in one's own head. We wonder about what could happen, even though it didn't happen and most likely never will, or what others could say. We destroy possibilities without ever having to pursue them just because we "think" some limiting thought and give up before we have started.

I remember a conversation I had with a client who was wondering about the value her clients got from her work. She was talking in the session, wondering about it, making assumptions, and trying to draw conclusions.

"Have you asked them?" I wondered. "no, I haven't." she responded.

Another client of mine assumed that there was a limit on what they could charge per hour, and as I inquired about it, we realized that they had 0 proof for that to be so.

Instead of agreeing or disagreeing with the assumption, I asked them to simply "test" a different price.

And that is where the magic happens.

When they got out of "head" and into "WORLD" they discovered a whole new world of possibility previously unknown.

She got clear about what her clients valued, and they got to increase their price by 4x, and people paid it.

It isn't only in business that this applies but everywhere.

We live inside our heads when it comes to our relationships, our businesses, health, adventure, and life in general.

But there is a whole world full of potential waiting for everyone who stops giving the voice inside your head dominion over what you do and don't do in life.

It is a world of play, testing, failing, discovering, and breaking through all the barriers the mind loves to create.

It's a world worth discovering.

Where are you hanging out in your head instead of being in the world?

Let's move past that.
