I like to work with people who are of high quality. People who are passionate about their ideas and want to make the world a better place.
When you have a decision to make about someone you hire, a person you partner with, or a client for your business, remember that you have power over your decisions. You can build the type of staff, the type of organization, the type of clientele that makes you proud. You may find someone that connects with your vision, your morals and your goals, but they may lack the skills you need in that moment. You have to be thoughtful with making decisions that will affect your organization. Does this person have the capacity to learn the skills you need? Is it worth the time to transition them?
These decisions are hard. You have to understand your own moral compass and what you are willing to do to move your business forward.
I meet a lot of interesting people in my work. Because I work in the general non profit world, as well as the arts/theater production world, I get a wide range of personalities. Some of my potential clients are people living far outside the world they want to be involved with. First timers, people who want to produce theater or a lead a movement without any experience doing that work. It makes deciding on clientele more interesting and challenging.
Be selective and thoughtful as you build your team/clientele/organization. Taking the time to curate your team now, will make for an easier path in the future.
