On being of service

On being of service

I found myself behind the bar at The Samphire Club event in Salcombe last week and I want to share what I noticed about how it relates to something I hold dear – the art of being of service.

As a Strengths Coach, my journey is all about empowering entrepreneurs and business owners to achieve their goals and transform their visions into reality. On this particular occasion, I found myself in a different kind of coaching scenario – serving the drinks.

What could pouring drinks possibly teach me about strengths coaching and being of service, you might wonder? Well, the lessons were there:

?? **Lesson 1: Humility & Adaptability** ??

No matter how seasoned you are in your field, and I’ve partnered with quite a few local business owners these last few years, there's immense value in stepping into unfamiliar shoes, outside of your comfort zone – in this case attempting to pour the perfect Gin for Dan Smale

?? **Lesson 2: Authentic Connection** ??

As I engaged with each person, I realized that service isn't just about fulfilling a task – it's about creating authentic connections. The genuine smiles, brief conversations, and shared laughs reminded me that in any endeavour, the human element is the true essence. In coaching, building authentic relationships forms the foundation for any meaningful progress and I know that new friendships are formed right there.

?? **Lesson 3: Impact Beyond Expectations** ??

What started as a simple act of getting behind the bar and pouring drinks turned into an unexpected opportunity to bring a playfulness to the event's atmosphere - a ripple effect of going above and beyond, and breaking a few rules.

So, what does this mean for you, whether you're a business owner, professional, or someone seeking personal growth?

Being of service isn't confined to a particular role or industry. It's a mindset, a way of approaching the people in your life and your work with a genuine desire to contribute positively, which may well take you out of your comfort zone.

As business leaders, the more we focus on being of service to those around us the greater the impact we will have.

If I can be of service to you as a Strengths Coach in your business, or in your life, then don't hesitate to reach out.

That was a perfectly acceptable gin and tonic, under the circumstances....
