Being Seen

Storytime!!!!

So this goes back to late February when I received evidence of what my kids were enduring as far as abuse while under their mother and her boyfriend's care. When I received this I was shocked, lost confused, riddled with self-blame, shame, helplessness and guilt.

As events unfolded, I got on the road to make the 1200 mile drive to go do whatever I could to get them out safely. These 11 days were the worst agony I could have possibly imagined and it nearly broke me.

At the time I was posting videos daily on LinkedIn and as these events occurred I posted fewer and fewer as I could not keep my composure at all.

Then, early March, while waiting for paperwork to get done and hoping I would be able to get my kids, I was getting worse daily but found the strength to post a video that was so raw and painful. I received a tremendous amount of support.

But, within days someone, a complete stranger connected with me and sent me a message on March 5th. It was the darkest day to that point and I was losing all hope and breaking completely. That person reached out and said, 

"I think there’s something in the stars. It’s awful. I’m not digging for info about what’s going on at all. But I will say I’ve been to hell and back twice. So if you need an outside perspective please reach out. You’re not alone. And yes, perseverance is key. So is leaning into your faith and support as you know. Us warriors often forget it’s ok to say enough is enough."

At that moment my life changed forever. There were additional conversations after this sporadically over the next couple of months. It was the next day I got the court order and got emergency custody of my kids.

I went into a deep depression that either triggered my thyroid to work less or my thyroid and Hashimotos just progressed— I’m not sure 

I got blood work and upped my medication. At that point I started coming out of it completely. Then the horrific George Floyd incident happened and I was inspired by Gary V's post "Break the Silence, Suffocate Hate” which pushed Gabriel and Me to create the 4R round tables.

By this time I was fully inspired and this person came back into my life, as they had been going through their own issues at the same time I was. 

It is fair to say that we both felt SEEN for the first time ever. It was a different level of seen than I have ever experienced before. It was true, divine connection from that moment on.

It is nearly impossible to explain and put into words what this has done for both of us, but it has opened doors for us to find our truest selves. It is not perfect and there have been bumps along the way but it put us both on our individual paths like only we could do for one another.

From what I know and can tell, we were both ready willing, and able to be seen at the exact same moments and since then a bond has been created like I never imagined could.

At the end of the day: Are you ready to be seen and are you willing? When both of these happen, are you able?
