On Being Response Able

On Being Response Able

Here is an interesting post on responding to crisis. In it, Prachi Tyagi says...

  • Scholars agree that being upfront about the situation in times of crisis and investing in transparent conversations with stakeholders ultimately helps limit fake stories and negative publicity surrounding the company (Carmichael, Putting the Right Information on Twitter in a Crisis). Since crisis management in the digital age is still an evolving territory, we are bound to learn more about dealing with information vacuum in the near future.

My thought is that the best response is to be responsible. With that in mind, this week, we started exploring Compassion as a strength of character. As noted, Compassion can be described as...

Compassion is responsible. It is response able. It stands ready to respond with an ear or a kind word, or some form of caring and responsible action.

The ability to respond ably; that is Responsibility. Recently, in watching War for the Planet of the Apes... and Spider-Man Homecoming... I witnessed themes of growing up and being responsible for ourselves and others. Both movies, I heartily recommend. Both movies and stories spoke to giving a damn, the importance of Compassion and Caring and Responsibility. Indeed, the virtue that is Responsibility in practice is an act of Caring and Compassion.

When we rise up to take better care of ourselves and/or others... we are practicing Responsibility as an act of Caring and Compassion. When we seize the reins, and accept that we are responsible for our impact and our lives, we are practicing Responsibility as an act of Caring and Compassion. When we stand up and take a stand for what is right, we are practicing Responsibility as an act of Caring and Compassion.

The virtue of Compassion is responsible. It cares. It believes in what matters most... and it responds. So, where do you most need to be practicing Responsibility right now, with yourself or others for whom you care? Is it at home, school, or work? Is it in business or community? Get clear on how you must respond... and do so. You will find that it is an act of Compassion.

We will continue to explore this week.

Peace, passion and prosperity.
