Being present
Life is what happens when you are busy making plans
In our carefully orchestrated lives, we often become so consumed with planning and organizing that we overlook the extraordinary moments that unfold unexpectedly. As my mother wisely remarked, "Life is what happens when you are busy making plans." In this writing, we will explore the delicate balance between being organized and in control while also savoring the joy of living in the present. By reflecting on the profound truth behind these words, we can learn to embrace the beauty of spontaneity and find fulfillment in the unscripted moments that shape our lives.
The Power of Planning:
Planning is an essential tool for achieving our goals and maintaining a sense of order in our lives. It allows us to prioritize tasks, allocate our resources efficiently, and reduce unnecessary stress. Whether it's creating a monthly budget, outlining a career roadmap, or organizing our daily routines, planning provides structure and direction. It helps us stay focused, motivated, and gives us a sense of control over our lives.
However, it is crucial to remember that plans are not set in stone. Life has a way of throwing unexpected curveballs at us (trust me I know) and it's how we adapt to these changes that truly defines our experiences.
The Beauty of Being Present:
Amidst the chaos and time consumption of planning and striving for our goals, it is essential to embrace the present moment. Being present means fully immersing ourselves in the here and now, rather than constantly dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. It allows us to appreciate the little things, find joy in simple moments, and strengthen our connections with others.
When we focus too much on the future, we risk missing out on the present. We may fail to notice the smiles on our loved ones' faces, the beauty of a sunset, or the small victories we achieve along the way. Being present brings a sense of mindfulness, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for the richness of life.
Finding Balance:
So, how can we strike a balance between planning and being present? It starts with cultivating a mindset of flexibility and adaptability. While it's essential to have a roadmap for our lives, we must also learn to embrace detours and unexpected opportunities that come our way. When talking about the future I always say that I have a direction, but not a destination. A few years ago I would not have told you that I would be relocated to Seychelles, get addicted to Padel and have a role that involves more than one island whilst still working with beverages, but that is my present, and I am grateful for it.

Embracing spontaneity and being open to new experiences can lead to unexpected adventures and personal growth. It allows us to break free from the constraints of rigid planning and open ourselves up to the beauty of serendipity.
Practical Tips for Balancing Planning and Presence:
1. Set realistic goals: While it is important to aim high, setting overly ambitious goals can lead to stress and disappointment. Find a balance between challenging yourself and allowing room for the unexpected.
2. Schedule downtime: Dedicate specific time slots for relaxation, self-care, and spending quality time with loved ones. This ensures that you have moments of rejuvenation amidst your busy schedule.
3. Practice mindfulness: Incorporate mindfulness techniques into your daily routine. Take a few moments each day to focus on your breath, observe your surroundings, and let go of racing thoughts.
4. Embrace spontaneity: Occasionally, break away from your planned routines and embrace the unexpected. Say "yes" to new experiences, explore new hobbies, and allow yourself to be present in the moment.
In our quest for control and organization, we should never lose sight of the magic that happens when we let go and embrace the beauty of the present moment. Remember, life is not just about achieving goals and ticking off items on a to-do list; it is about living fully and appreciating the journey. So, while it is essential to plan and be organized, always make space for the unexpected and cherish the beauty of being present.
Have a stellar day ahead
