Being Present

Welcome back, it’s great to be here with you as we make the push toward the weekend with this week’s edition of The Culture Junky LinkedIn Exclusive blog series.?
This week I want to talk about the importance of being present, and not just in the traditional sense of making sure you’re present and available for your team members during the week as things arise.?
This week I want to talk about the importance of really being present, in all aspects of your life, whether it’s at a culture building event, a team meeting, or even outside of the office when spending time with your family.?
Thanks to these handy phones we all have in our pockets, it’s very easy to get distracted, even if it’s by something work related or just something generally important. While this is great for keeping in touch, staying on top of things, and getting things done, it’s also an easy way to miss out on the present.?
In the workplace, this can lead to missing out on the chance to form genuine connections with team members, or the chance to pick up on important tells that can help give you insight into your culture. Little things that you’ll notice if you’re present and paying attention to the dynamics between team members and your culture at play in real time.??
When you’re present you can not only be a better team member by actively participating, but also a better leader by being able to clue into what is or isn’t needed to improve your culture.?
So whether you’re getting ready to head to a culture event later today before the weekend, or you’re simply planning to enjoy some time at home with your family over the weekend, make sure to be fully present in order to get the most out of things.?
We’ll talk soon.?
