Being Present

   An important part of “being present” is “being”. This is a challenge for most people today because they are not comfortable being by themselves in a quiet place with just their own thoughts. Thinking is becoming a lost art. Being comfortable with yourself can be hard to achieve because of the world of social media in which we live. There is instant gratification and constant comparison. We tend to believe that the highlight reels others are showing are actually their ordinary, day-to-day lives. In reality, they are only showing the best parts and leaving out much of the real parts of their lives.

           As I mentioned in my previous post, being present is absolutely essential for winning in life. This begins with accountability to and honesty with yourself. The easiest person for you to deceive regarding your current situation is yourself, particularly when it comes to your finances.

           Many investors have leveraged themselves in ways that can quickly become dangerous. We are in the time in the market cycle when these investors need to be honest with themselves about the full extent of where they are financially. Are they operating on a regular monthly budget? Are they checking the balance sheets in their various business accounts at least biweekly? Are they engaged in some sort of forward-looking cash management? These things are essential to “being present” in your business at it relates to money.
