Being patient with the known unknowns

Sometimes we think we know what we need, but we have no way of knowing where and how to find it.?

And anxiously searching isn’t the answer when we need a different way of seeing.

Like water from the rock.

TO KNOW THE DARK

To go in the dark with a light is to know the light.

To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight,

and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings,

and is travelled by dark feet and dark wings.

+ Wendell Berry, from The Selected Poems of Wendell Berry, 1988

Until we sit with the dark side we will ignore half of who we are. Wendell Berry is the berry best Sue Heatherington

Funny, that is precisely what I do at night: close my eyes if I move around the dark bedroom. I know I can't rely on my eyesight, and although I can't echo coordinate like a bat, either, my closed eyes are reminders to be careful and use my hands for orientation.

The knowing keeps control. The control keeps The feeling of safe. … being takes us where we need to head. Like a leafy bobbing up and down on the waters surface - :) great thinking thank you Sue

'to know the dark, go dark' How simple, yet powerful, Sue. There is so much we throw ourselves into half-heartedly. If it was all about experimenting, that would be fine, but so often we aim for more without a willingness to give more. Thanks for sharing this beautiful poem with us.

Brings to mind shadow work as well. You can't know yourself without knowing the shadow.
