On being open to possibilities

I’m not sure how open we can be if our minds are full and our diary is back to back.

Possibilities, by their nature, are things that are not yet.

They have an element of imagination. And hope weaves through them like a thread of gold which we only see in a particular light.

The possibilities of autumn are not seen on the surface.

Indeed autumn can give the appearance of only being concerned with endings.

Yet the possibilities are there, hidden in plain sight. They just require us to pause and look deeper, below what we can see with our eyes.

Because life is there, as the Persian poet Rumi remarked:

“Don’t think the garden loses its ecstasy in winter. It’s quiet, but the roots down there are riotous.”

What possibilities might you uncover and nurture as you head deeper into this season?

I am busy cultivating the art of quiet disruption.

Choosing to see differently in this season, sometimes in the company of the poet Gideon Heugh. And I wonder, did you find the little snail?
