“BEING IN THE KNOW”
One thing you can count on is somebody voicing their opinion, even if they don’t know all the facts. Sometimes, people get caught up in things that they know nothing about. We see political arguments that are basically propaganda, however, people will jump on the bandwagon and promote the cause, even if the cause is based on a half-truth.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker, Harrison Butker recently gave a commencement speech at Benedictine College embracing conservative politics and Catholicism. One thing that caused a stir among the media was when he addressed the women. He said that some of the women were looking forward to getting their degree and having a career. Then he said that most of the women were looking forward to starting a family (these are not direct quotes). He has been highly criticized in the media for even suggesting that women be excited about the traditional role of wife and mother. The interesting thing is that he received a standing ovation from the graduates and other attendees of the ceremony.
?
What did Harrison Butker say that was wrong? Nothing. It was just that some people don’t agree with the traditional roles of men and women. That is their right, however, just because they don’t agree, it doesn’t mean that those who support the traditional roles are wrong.

In this age of 24/7 news, we are bombarded with information, yet how do we know what is credible? With so many different news sources to choose from, you can easily pick one that aligns with your opinion. Now that does not make it credible, it just means that you are hearing what you want to hear.

This has found its way into the church. It is not a surprise, Paul said it would happen. People will seek for the truth of God, yet if it offends them, some will find a congregation that teaches what they want to hear. Many denominations are embracing things today that the word of God calls sin. They say it is in the name of love and inclusiveness. While it may be the politically correct thing to do, they are merely giving people a false sense of salvation. How are the leaders of these congregations going to defend themselves before God?

We need to take stand for those things we believe in. Before we stand though, we need to know the facts. We can’t stand on half-truths and opinions. That is a shaky base! We can stand on God’s word because we can know the truth and the truth sets us free!
