Being an AND not a BUT

Recently I was fortunate to hear a speech given by Nick Saban the coach of the University of Alabama football team. During his talk he used an example that really hit home with me. He stated that often during his decision making process on recruiting players to his program,the final piece to the puzzle is in the "ands or buts" on the player in question.

Because of the success of the Alabama football team, Coach Saban often has his choice of talented players to bring in. So when he has to make a decision between which one to take and which one to pass on, he looks at the reports from his coaches, scouts and people around him. One player will have this report; good speed, aggressive, mentally strong BUT has had trouble with coaches and doesn't attend classes. A second player might have this; good speed, great hands, good work ethic AND coaches say he is a team leader and his teammates like and respect him. It hit me when Coach Saban was making this point that our business success can come down to the same concept.

At SMI MACHINE TOOLS we hope that we are known for our AND factor. This wonderful organization provides support for veterans who suffer from PTSD through peer to peer counseling and assistance in their struggle to assimilate back into civilian life. We also give our effort to support events like The Patriot Tour. This event is put on by the group run by Marcus Luttrell (Lone Survivor) and Taya Kyle (widow of Chris Kyle) that our spokesman Michael Berry hosts at his Redneck Country Club to raise money for veteran causes. On November 13, 2015 we have purchased 100 tickets  for this event and would be honored to have you attend with us to hear both Mr. Luttrell and Ms. Kyle share their stories and tell you more about their worthwhile cause.
