Being immersed in the world of Munich Re

The International Graduate Trainee Program is a 24-month rotational program geared towards recent college graduates. Those who are a part of the program are immersed into the world of Munich Re and rotate to different departments within the company, allowing one to experience every facet of the organization.

Daniel Guimar?es Rodrigues , a Graduate Trainee working out of the Princeton office, was born in Brazil and recently received a degree in Economics from 美国罗格斯新泽西州立大学新布朗斯维克分校 . When he was looking for an internship and trainee opportunity, he looked at Munich Re because of the reputation and diversity of our organization. Daniel stated, “Munich Re is a worldwide company and adopts a global mindset, they hire people from all over the country and world, building a very diverse background across the organization. It was a perfect match when I realized I can combine my international background and technical knowledge with a global institution.”

Daniel explains that his favorite part of the program is, “The opportunity that we get to meet new people around the company every day. Having the experience of being an intern as well as trainee at Munich Re allows you to go up to anyone in the company and introduce yourself. You can reach out to anyone in the company, and everyone is incredibly open to getting to know you and sharing their knowledge and expertise.”

When asked about some of the challenges he faced during the program, Daniel stated, “Part of the trainee program is that we have different rotations, usually three months long in different departments. One thing that is challenging is to switch mindsets when you are entering a new team or department. You must adapt to that new department. It is an important skill and ability to have but it can also be challenging at times. One Friday afternoon you have a happy hour with one team and then on Monday morning you are a part of a completely different team. There can be diverse cultures or sometimes different ways of meeting whereas one team is mostly in person and one team can be completely online.”

Daniel’s biggest piece of advice for graduates looking to apply the trainee program would be, “To stay curious and that everyone in the program is always looking to learn more. It can be a little overwhelming sometimes because everyone is curious to learn the reasons why, everyone is curious to learn new things. It correlates directly to Munich Re being a global company. Munich Re really motivates you to learn more not only about your own culture but other cultures as well. You learn a lot about the different perspectives people have from all around the world.”
