Being Human… Being Responsible…

Just read a post on What App about two school children. There was Ashadhi Ekadashi celebration in their school and their parents had given them money to buy drapery and other things for the same. By chance they met a senior poor couple on their way to a shop. The old man was a patient. Sensing the need, the children took them to a nearby doctor who knew the children well. After the check- up, he provided medicines and did not charge for the treatment. The children called a riksha and gave 100 Rs note to the couple for paying rikshawala. The post made me think about individual responsibility towards society. In this case, the children had voluntarily displayed the social sense and had done whatever they felt necessary. This is exactly what we call Individual Social Responsibility.
Scholarship and oratory are considered two major things that are very rare. Likewise, social responsibility also seems rare.
Individual social responsibility refers to the ethical obligations and actions that individuals have towards society and the environment. It involves taking responsibility for one's own actions and their impact on others, as well as actively contributing to the well-being of society.
Humans are different from other animals because of their intellect. So, it is their responsibility to use this intellect and energy for well -being of others. It does not matter what you do for others and how much time you spend for others. What is important is your will to do something without expecting any reciprocation. If you have such an inclination, you will find so many areas to volunteer.

It is true that life has become so fast and stressful that one must struggle hard for individual and family sustenance. But social responsibility does not demand for huge energy, money, or time. Even while following our daily routine, we can do our bit for society.
Individuals can demonstrate social responsibility in various ways, such as volunteering whenever needed like these children in the social media post mentioned above, environmental conservation, philanthropy (donating time, money, or resources to causes and organizations that work to address social issues and improve the lives of others), speaking up for social justice, equality, and human rights etc. Even treating others with kindness, empathy, and respect is an important social responsibility. It maintains the positivity in our society.
By practicing individual social responsibility, individuals can contribute to creating a more sustainable, just, and inclusive society.
