Being Homeless Helps You Realize a Few Things

Some people see where I'm at now, but those who know me or have followed me for a while may remember I was actually homeless at one point in my life.

I say this not for pity of any kind or "oh poor me" because it taught me and reminds of a few things.

First and foremost I got through it and frankly, I wouldn't be scared to homeless by myself again. That's empowering in some ways because removing that fear is big.

I've been through that pain.

Physical, mental, and emotional pain.

I've taken that shot to my ego.

I know what it's like to hurt when you wake up from sleeping on something that's not exactly a cushy bed that I'm used to now.

And it didn't kill me.

But here's the catch...

I'm not willing to put my family through that.

It's kinda like being in the hospital is not a big deal for me, but I'm just seconds away from turning into John Q when my family members have to be in the hospital....it's just much harder.

So when it comes to risk for my business and my family's finances, I am willing to take calculated risks because I'm very confident in my abilities and the abilities of my teams.

And part of the RIGHT risks is also insulating and protecting us from a catastrophic loss that could endanger my family.

Some people think by taking no risks they are safe....but in reality, it's often the most dangerous position to be in....you just don't realize it. It's like pulling a blanket over your head and thinking the monster under the bed goes away because you can't see it. But the monster just blindsides you and eats you nonetheless.

In business right now, many are scared.

And they should be.....because the monster is coming.

But that fear shouldn't lead to paralysis if you want to make it through.

Many businesses won't be around in 3-6 months.

The difference in the ones who make it will be those who choose to take action. Even if it's imperfect action, it can be redirected and course-corrected. But sitting back and doing nothing is just waiting for the monster to eat you.

And the biggest problem is, the monster doesn't just eat you.

It eats your customers and clients that you serve.

It eats your team and your staff that you said were a top priority.

And it eats your family which may be destroyed because of it all.

This monster threatens to wipe out everything an everyone who matters to you.

And the decisions you make in your business will decide if it gets to you or to someone else instead....because the monster is gonna eat.

Many are looking to the government and the SBA.

They want what was promised to them as a security blanket.

I'm talking about the PPP and EIDL programs.

And our business brokerage is right in the middle of this, helping people with our strategic partners.

The problem for many is that the process is way too slow.

Even more frustrating is that with the overwhelm, one lender after another is saying "sorry we're full, go somewhere else."

And most frustrating is when someone is caught in the middle - they are a good sized business but not quite big enough to get to some lenders. And so they have to deal with some of the automated systems in place that don't take into account the nuances and specifics to their business - which can dump their PPP program to a fraction of what they should really get, OR worse yet disqualify them when they should be fine! This is an unintended consequence of a completely overwhelmed system.

So what's an owner to do?

If the money isn't coming fast enough?

If you didn't get funded yet?

If you didn't get enough?

If you didn't even get qualified or get it in?

What else can you do to supplement this to get by?

This isn't just about YOU surviving the monster.

It's about your customers, staff, and family too!

So it's time to take action.

If not for you, then at least for them.

Like I said, I'm not worried about being homeless myself.

But it's not happening to my family.

Not on my watch.

And to me, this is the same thing - we can't fail our customers, our team, or my family......not on my watch.

So we've taken the extra steps.

Got extra loans.

Invested whatever cost it takes to make it happen....to survive and get through.

Getting a fast cash injection for our business means we can live to fight another day while we wait on any of the SBA relief and for cash flow to get back to normal.

Sustainability is the goal.

Sustainability means we get to keep moving forward.

Sustainability means our people eat and keep a roof over their heads.

Sustainability means we can keep our promises to continue serving our customers.

And sustainability means that when we avoid the monster by getting through all this, we will be set up to catapult forward. We will capture the market share we earned by being smart and not getting eaten by the monster.

If you need help reach out.

Like I said, we've taken steps to make it happen for our companies.

And we've helped out clients do the same....through both coaching and giving them direct access to the fast cash injection they need to get by.

Even if you aren't a client, we may be able to help.

We have the connections and lending partners to make it happen.

And even if we aren't a good fit, we are glad to point you in the right direction for more help.

But whatever you do, take action NOW!!!

Let us help connect you.

Or connect yourself with other trusted professionals who can get you access to the money you need to get by.

Just do it now before your back is completely against the wall and it's too late to be anything but a statistic.

This post Isn't about fear and negativity.....it's to remind you that you CAN do something about it vs. sitting there with a blanket pulled over your head and pretending the monster isn't coming for you.

You've got this!!!

Now make it happen!!!!
