Being Happy at Work Matters
Dear WHADer,
It’s mid week, and the weather is not being so kind of late. And this is what this 3-4 mins message is for.
In today’s TWWN, we ponder about happiness at work. I am a firm believer that that no one should be unhappy.
Why? Because as happier creators, we can contribute to humanity what it truly deserves. Selfishly, this is also important for each of us deep inside too.
Let’s GO!
Topic: HAPPINESS
Being Happy at Work Matters
“Happiness at work isn’t just a luxury; it’s crucial for engagement and performance. Research shows that employees who are emotionally connected to their job and colleagues work harder and smarter. Yet, many feel disengaged, often due to a lack of vision, purpose, or supportive relationships in the workplace.
Like a well-designed space in architecture, workplaces need to be intentionally crafted to foster wellbeing and happiness. In my book Wellbeing + Happiness Thru’ Architecture + Design, we discussed how environments can profoundly affect mood and productivity. The same principles apply to work settings.
Employees need a meaningful vision of the future to feel invested, much like how design can influence the flow and purpose of a space. When leaders fail to communicate a compelling vision or connect it to employees’ personal goals, they lose engagement.
A sense of purpose is equally essential. Employees want to know that their work contributes to something bigger, impacting others positively. It’s like designing a building with a purpose beyond aesthetics, ensuring it enriches lives. Similarly, great relationships in the workplace act as structural supports, creating a strong, trust-filled foundation for collaboration and creativity.
Happiness and engagement at work stem from these three key elements: vision, purpose, and resonant relationships. It’s up to individuals to align their work with their values and for leaders to create environments where employees can thrive. By focusing on these aspects, we can ‘design’ a workplace that not only supports wellbeing but also enhances overall performance and satisfaction.”
