Being guided by lived experience - our 2024 Annual Report
This week we shared our 2024 Annual Report - a collection of stories highlighting how invaluable lived experience is in our efforts towards our purpose.
For any organisations out there that compile a story based Annual Report, you will know how hard it is. There are often so many stories and incredible examples to choose from and it is a very challenging process to only choose a few. Our team who manage the development of the report deserve a medal - it is a super hard task!
Our 2024 report we hope shows our absolute commitment to being led by the lived experience of people - our employees carers, people we support and partnerships all across the country.
I am not the first one to say this, but our organisation is a representation of the communities we live in, work in and serve. We therefore have, and will continue to deeply invest in being an organisation decisively oriented to being informed and led by diverse views and experiences. But for us it is more than that. We know we also have to be responsive in stepping out of the way and support the self-determination of people so they can choose the services, solutions and opportunities they wish to have in their lives.
It has been a year of mindset growth and learning in the best possible way. That is the best part of creating space for lived experience leadership in your organisation. It enables greater understanding, facilitates more progress, creates energy and excitement and above all helps you align even more to your values.
Around this time of year, my team know I do two things. I get very reflective of the year that was and those reflections inform how I believe our organisation, and I as CEO need to go into next year. My key reflection I hope to share is a deepening of something I have known for a long time - collective wisdom, shared space, listening and respect and choosing the progress of others over yourself is what has the power to ignite generational change.
I hope all our incredible partners, friends, carers and community see their tremendous contribution in our Annual Report for 2024. From all of us @life without barriers - we thank you.
