Being gracious when things don't work out.....
My favorite soccer team is the Tottenham Hotspurs, also known as the Spurs. They play in the English Premier League, in North London and have some of the best soccer players in the world, including a favorite of mine Harry Kane. The Spurs had a decent season this year, coming in 4th place in their league and qualifying for a spot in the Championship League - essentially all the best teams in Europe come together to play for a championship.
The Spurs pulled off some amazing upsets and made it all the way to the final against Liverpool. They lost a heartbreaking game by one goal, actually a penalty kick just thirty seconds into the game. You can say it was unfair, but they still lost. A recent post from their social media summed it up best.
“The journey was incredible, and the memories will live on forever. It wasn’t to be this time but, we’re only getting started. Thank you for your incredible support. We hope you are as proud as we are. We are Tottenham, we’ll be back!”
It was refreshing to see the Spurs acknowledge their loss and use that as encouragement and inspiration to come back and win again next season.
Often times, there can be individuals not willing to accept blame, pointing their fingers at others and not taking responsibility for their own mistakes or losses. It’s not about throwing your enemies under the bus, it’s more about personal growth. The opportunity to move you and your organization in the right direction.
Let’s get 'em next year!
