Being gifted in our attention

Sometimes, when we pay attention to that which is familiar, it blows us away.

We discover far more than we expect to see.

And it is beautiful.

It fills us up in a way we hadn’t anticipated.

And it is lovely.

Instructions for living a life:

Pay attention.

Be astonished.

Tell about it.

+Mary Oliver, excerpt from her poem 'Sometimes'

These are boughs I know well – I thought!

I have photographed the light playing through the leaves across the green path, delighted in their emergence in spring and rejoiced in their autumn colours.

Yet, I hadn’t realised it was three different trees, and the graceful bough wasn’t even attached to the main trunk.

It belonged elsewhere.

Pause. See differently. Re-story…

~ I’ve so enjoyed the response to yesterday’s question: What is your soul food? Do keep the replies coming – I’d love to hear more.

“Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity.” Simone Weil Whether to the tree, the cat in our lap, or the person sitting across from us, it is truly a gift. It is also important to thank those that offer the gift to us. Thank you, as always Sue Heatherington

We're on the same page today, Sue Heatherington. We're surrounded by so many incredible things on a regular basis, when can forget to pay attention. Thanks for the nudge to do just that.
