Being Fearful of Winning Multi-Million Dollar Government Contracts

Can you believe that when I first started government contracting, despite having qualifications and being in business for about four years, making money every month, I was still overwhelmed with fear??
Well, I was! I feared losing everything I had, the people around me, and the thought of admitting failure in my entrepreneurial journey was scary.?
My fear was paralyzing. It prevented any real progress. I found myself sinking into sadness, drinking more and more, constantly waiting for some sign to confirm my fear of imminent failure. Despite these challenges, I didn’t connect my fear with the lack of success in winning contracts, believing them to be unrelated.?
My Turning Point?
So an amazing thing happened in my life. I started to stumble upon solid mentors.?
For several years, there were people who I met, maybe in Orlando or other places in Florida, or during my trips across the United States, who wanted to mentor me or help me. I had taken courses, but remember, I wasn’t really winning; I was living in fear.?
After moving to Miami Beach, I still wasn't winning contracts. I thought, “Something’s got to change.” And something did change. I was selected to participate in an entrepreneurial leadership program. I started going through it, meeting every week for several months. And then, on top of that, I ended up getting a group of mentors in Orlando, Florida.
I began to experience a transformation. I learned from my mentors and understood more about what it means to actually be an owner and act like one. This realization helped me gain confidence.?
I was in a dark place, dealing with depression and heavy drinking. However, as I engaged more with the mentorship programs, I started to see changes. I also went on a journey to sobriety, which was a great change.?
My personal trainer in Miami Beach staged an intervention, leading me to get help and eventually becoming sober. This part of my life, around July 2013, marked a big shift. Despite the fear and daily struggles, including financial pressures and not getting new contracts, things slowly began to improve.

Finding Success?
The transformation became more evident a few months after my sobriety and participating in these developmental programs. My perspective on fear and failure started to change dramatically. I went from feeling like I was under some sort of giant weight of the world to gaining a new sense of hope and purpose.
In the middle of my personal growth, by September 2013, my company, KPC, secured its first multimillion-dollar contract. It happened just before a government shutdown, which fortunately didn't last long. I believe the timing and success of this contract were not coincidental but a result of the personal and professional growth I was experiencing.
I had to confront my inner fears and the scarcity mentality that had held me back, constantly doubting and limiting myself. Thankfully, I realized that to succeed and to actually take advantage of the mentorship I received, I needed to be open to change and continuous improvement.
