Being enough am I really enough?

Being enough am I really enough?

Recently, I was watching about the universal anxiety about ‘being good enough’, and it reminded me of something Oprah said. In discussing all the people she’s interviewed over the years, without exception each one had asked her, ‘was that ok’? ‘or checked in to see ‘how did I do’? Even people that many hold up as idols, such as Beyoncé, said, ‘did I do ok’?

Why is it, I pondered, that we all seem to ask are we doing ok, are we enough? Even those that seem to ‘have it all’. One powerful reason is that we are social animals and without feedback we would literally die. Just like babies need human touch and connection to thrive, we too need verbal, emotional and physical feedback to know and truly feel connected to our tribe. This is evidence that it’s not the ‘things’, cars, money, houses, yachts, that make us feel ‘enough’, it’s the quality of our connections. But before we can be authentically validated by others and affirm their worth in turn, we need to tune into our internal compass and know that we are indeed more than enough.

In sales and business the energy of ‘feeling and being enough’ needs to be continuously harnessed within ourselves first before we can positively influence others. It’s a bit like a bank account, the more we invest into our feelings of worth and being enough, the more interest (good feelings) we are connected to. Those then take us into the world and help us connect with our tribe. In a healthy and successful business, your tribe encompasses not only you and your colleagues but everyone you do business with, including potential clients and customers. Knowing your worth positively affects all your interactions.

Next time you are preparing for a sales meeting; do these three things and notice the improvement in your results.

1.   Think of at least one time when you felt fantastic, full of energy, happy, at peace, and alive.

2.   Connect to those feelings and let them move throughout your body, let it be as it is. It might feel like a color, a shape or sensation; whatever it is feel it fully.

3.   As you are in this feeling, say to yourself out loud, “I am enough”. Repeat, “I am enough”, continue repeating until you feel it in your body. If you need to, go to the mirror and look at yourself and repeat “I am enough”.
