My team at Think Media Studios is about to release two documentaries "Burn the Ships" and "A More Civil War" over the next two months. Our trailer for Burn the Ships can be seen here:
What insights can we provide to content producers based on our documentary work?
Here are a couple I have learned:
- Editing is probably the most undervalued skill in the production world but when it is done right you don't even notice it (unless you are an editor).
- Production of content requires an insane amount of preparation (including gas-masks for our "A More Civil War" documentary).
- Look for the heart of the story, follow it and weave it into the look and feel of the production.
- Don't worry about how long or extensive content is going to be just follow the last statement above and you'll find the sweet spot.
Something to think about:
Kenny Mitchell, Senior Director of Consumer Engagement at Gatorade, breaks down the content they are creating into two parts "product and equity" from the article published on Forbes.com and it is a fantastic assessment of how the "equity" piece has gained traction into the marketing discussion. (Also, included in this article from Forbes is how virtual reality (VR) is being used to create unique experiences to tell stories and our work for TourismOhio and Invacare showcases that technology)
Happy content creating!
