Being Connected
If you look around today in public, in an airport on a train, on a bus, you will see that most if not all the people you observe are on a mobile device, be that an iPad, another tablet, a smartphone, or wearable technology, every person has at least 2 or 3 devices as an extension of themselves.
An Example of this - whilst waiting in an airport recently, I got speaking to a business man about various aspects of IT, and the various devices he and I had around us, he was having an issue with connectivity some of his devices where connecting to the wifi internet, and some of his devices where having poor connectivity to the wifi internet, this seemed to irritate him the fact that he was not ‘connected’ because he couldn't access work files, or personal files.
One thing that stood out for me was the fact that all though some devices couldn’t connect to the internet, each and every one of his devices were connected to each other, by bluetooth, wirelessly tethered, sync’d up, as one unit, one device, he could access files from his laptop on his tablet, files from his laptop that are on his tablet, on his smartphone, he had all these devices connected up to each other all to be used for the same purpose but just in different ways be that from a cloud solution or a local device in his hands.
Being connected to everyone and anything in today’s world is as important for the dedicated business man as it is for the average consumer, we feel the need to be complete and to ensure everything we own is attached to us in some way or form if it is not connected to us we feel incomplete, agitated and irritated, our devices are an extension of ourselves, and we are becoming more and more obsessed by the thought of being fully connected and having access to work or personal files any where, at any time, Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Facebook they are all masters in the art of being connected in the 21st century, it comes in many forms BYOD, Internet of Everything (IoE), wireless, bluetooth, tethering, Instant Messaging, Video calling, social media.
we are all connected to ourselves and to one another in some shape or form, consumers use it for connecting to the latest trends and staying in touch with friends, Businesses use it for connecting to employees and clients, being connected is todays way of communicating and working, it is the latest trend if we add all of the trends together BYOD, IoT, Social media, the internet, cloud services it all works in collaboration now as a unified solution – Its all about ‘being connected, and having that connectivity to be connected.
In summary these devices and the way we get our connectivity for these devices be that broadband or by 4G, they are changing the world and allowing businesses to continue working no matter where they may be in the world. For those businesses and business people that dont embrace this technology they will get left behind, for those who fully embrace this technology they will be able to supply services to customers in a faster and much more efficient rate whilst being much more productive than any other business out there today.
