Being Comfortable In Uncomfortable Situations
Learning with Young Leaders Episode 17 with Pablo: Being Comfortable In Uncomfortable Situations

Being Comfortable In Uncomfortable Situations

This episode features Pablo, co-founder of Arextech, a Canadian Proptech start-up that's working on a blockchain-enabled platform to make real estate transactions of any kind fully digital. He is also a Techstars alumni and Creative Destruction Lab Blockchain Stream participant.

Pablo shared about his international exposure, how he manages uncomfortable situations, why it’s important to stay true to yourself, and much more!

Being Comfortable With Uncomfortable Situations

Having to relocate between countries for his schooling days and career opportunities, Pablo got used to operating under uncertainty. He is fine not knowing where he’s going to be in a month’s time and has learned how to manage those situations.

To deal with uncertainty, Pablo has a framework which he adopts, where he has a very clear image of what he can affect, and what is outside of his sphere of control or power. By focusing on what can be done and tuning out the “background noise” of those he can’t change, Pablo is able to stay on course for what he hopes to achieve.

Asking For Help

Pablo also mentioned the power of asking for help, saying that the best conversations he’s had were the ones where he’s just been asking for help. His perspective on this was really refreshing as he said “worst case scenario, you just stay as you are because they won’t help you”.

Frankly speaking, there is no downside to asking for help if you think about it that way, because there’s always a chance that people will offer you a helping hand and set you off in the right direction.

Don’t be afraid to ask!

Staying True To Yourself

When I probed Pablo about what success means to him, he brought up the importance of staying true to yourself. Once you have set your personal goals, just do what you set out to do. Don’t worry about contenting other people or care about what people think, because you’re always going to find someone you haven’t contented, and that’s going to make you miserable!

It was a really powerful concept which packs so much behind it, and I think it is something worth pondering over for everyone out there!

These are the 3 key takeaways from my interview with Pablo:

  1. Learn to live outside your comfort zone so that you can deal with uncertainty
  2. There's nothing wrong with asking for help!
  3. Stay true to yourself, don't worry about what others think!
