Being comfortable with our doubts and uncertainty
For too long, we’ve been taught that certainty is good.
But what if it’s not?
What if it inhibits our growth as human beings in a gloriously vibrant and ever-changing world?
What if it stops us from perceiving the mysterious depths of reality just because it doesn’t have a hard edge?
DOUBTS
You don't need to hide
from your doubts.
Let them come to you.
Let them fill you
with their peculiar magic
and show you
that the path is generous,
that it will accept more questions
than you could possibly ask.
Let your uncertainty
be the teacher you always needed –
the one who smiles
with a glint in their eye
and answers, 'Maybe.'

10 个月The poet Keats wrote about what he termed “Negative Capability, that is, when a [person] is capable of being in uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason.” Always loved that word ‘irritable’ in there...don’t give me all that air-fairy irrational nonsense…give me something SOLID to hang on to!
