On Being Charming
Is it nature or nurture, or a skillful smoke and mirrors exercise to pull the cashmere over the smoldering baby blues. I am not sure to be sure, but I love it when the charm arrives regardless! Could this human characteristic be part of your brand? I am not sure, but it is worth exploring, and maybe in the future there could be a ‘Brand Charm Value Score’ to add to the other brand evaluation metrics we are bombed with.
My own charming wife describes people in two simple ways; Drains and Radiators. When choosing company, whether a friend, lover, client or agency, she says always ‘Choose Radiators’. And a key attribute of the radiator is Charm. So I went looking on the Internet of Things and Thoughts and found the following 10 traits of a Charmer. If when you look in the mirror, you see a Drain, then perhaps you could try these traits out and see if that changes your reflection. You could even see if they could be applied to your brand experience.
1. They're genuinely glad to meet you = always a Smile.
2. Show a little vulnerability = be confident not arrogant.
3. Search for agreement = celebrate your common values.
4. The power of touch = bring it in and hug it out.
5. Dine out on their foibles = tell stories that connect.
6. Masters of social jiu-jitsu = accessibility and openness.
7. Pass the waiter test = respectful.
8. Great with names = remember who you are.
9. Never name drop = happy to be themselves.
10. Always say less = informative, never boring.
