Behind-the-Scenes of an Alaska Airlines Airport Duty Manager
Ever wonder what happens from the moment you check-in until you board your flight? We talked with Amir, Station Duty Manager at San Francisco International Airport to explain what goes on above and below the wing. Amir oversees the entire operation, ensuring a seamless and safe travel experience for passengers. From coordinating with customer service agents, gate agents, supervisors, and vendors like the ramp team, Amir's dedication to excellence ensures that every step of the process, from ticket counter to baggage claim, is carefully managed.
We asked Amir what’s one thing passengers may not know that goes on behind-the-scenes? He said, “A lot is happening as soon as you check-in. For example, you may not know that we’re working on seating families together even before you walk into the airport and drop off your bag. Once you drop off your bags, it’ll go from the customer service agent to the belt. Then it gets screened by TSA before it’s in the hands of runners, who load the bags onto a cart and drive it to the aircraft where the ramp team is ready to load the bags onto the aircraft. All of this is happening at the same time customer service agents are upstairs boarding passengers for their flight. I try to make sure the whole process for the passenger from the time they walk into the airport is seamless and the operation is safe.”
Amir has been with the company for 6 years, so we asked what was his first job? “I actually started as a customer service agent. I bid for a lead position after just six months on the job and then became a supervisor. Eight months ago, I applied for the duty manager position here at SFO and was offered the position.”

Lastly, we wanted to know what makes Amir stay when it comes to working with Alaska? “I used to work for a different airline here at SFO. One day I met this nice gentleman with Alaska Airlines. He was so happy and that got my attention. Six months later, I applied for a position. Now I know why that employee enjoyed his job so much. Since day one, I’ve felt accepted and that I’m part of a team. When you’re comfortable, you want to grow. If it wasn’t for that gentleman, I wouldn’t be sitting here with you today at Alaska, much less as a Station Duty Manager. By the way, the employee I met still works for Alaska.”?

1 年Best airline in the country! I always fly Alaska Airlines when I can, but I recently had to fly another airline. It was an unpleasant experience; I felt that their cabin crew just hated their jobs. Not at Alaska!
