Behind the Scenes: Yahoo Finance
Welcome to the Cutting Room Floor, a newsletter where I round up all my personal finance articles, put out exclusive content and interviews, and flag my favorite job listings from around LinkedIn.
You can say many things about me, but you can never say I'm not loyal. Exhibit A: I still have a Yahoo email address!
So maybe it's only fitting that I should get an invite to check out Yahoo Finance 's spanking new studios in NYC. You may have seen them all over the place recently -- rolling out a slate of new TV programming, launching podcasts, even ringing the bell at the Nasdaq .
The finance site has long been the crown jewel of that whole operation (I use it myself all the time). But it's been so dominant for so long that "people took us for granted," general manager Tapan Bhat told me.
So to keep the brand top-of-mind and freshen up its offerings, it's doing what you might call a full-court press. The new live programming lineup includes Morning Brief at 9 am, Catalysts at 10, Wealth at 11, Market Domination at 3, Market Domination Overtime at 4, and Asking for a Trend at 4:30. (Some it helmed by the great Julie Hyman , my North Jersey neighbor!)
That's a lot of stuff to keep track of, which is why the control room looks like something out of NASA:
They are also featuring original series, both in their second seasons: Lead This Way, and NEXT. Plus there are a couple of new podcasts kicking off: Opening Bid with Brian Sozzi , which comes out Mondays and Fridays (first episode out with Troy A. Gayeski, CFA and Jay Woods, CMT ), and Stocks In Translation with Jared Blikre (Tuesdays and Thursdays).
Through the magic of tech, podcast setups such as this ...
... turn into backdrops such as this ...
To a tech idiot like me, that's pretty impressive stuff (I still remember when Pong first came out!).
Beyond the Yahoo Finance app, you can access all this material through smart TVs like Samsung and Vizio, DirecTV streams, Amazon Freevee, YouTube, and the site itself here.
Thanks to the comms team of Noemi Esparza (エスパルサ 乃恵美) , Katelyn Brehony and Sona Iliffe-Moon for having me by!
The popular "48 Hours" travel series may be winding up at Reuters , but before it's over, we got to fit in one for the ages: Chef Jose Andres.
The man may be the closest thing we have to a living saint, feeding people in dire straits all over the world through his nonprofit World Central Kitchen .
Before the recent and tragic events in Gaza, we got to talk to him about one of his favorite places on Earth, the Greek capital of Athens. In fact he even has a new cookbook out, called Zaytinya, featuring the gorgeous flavors of Greece, Turkey, and Lebanon.
His take on the ancient city is quite beautiful and lyrical -- and, as you might expect, very food-centered! Check out my column here:

The latest jobs report was another home run, with 303,000 added in March. We've become a bit numb to these big numbers, but historically speaking, this run is really quite remarkable. (Now send a few more of them over to the journalism world, wouldja?!)
Here are a few of them that came across my feed in the past week, that might catch your jaundiced eye:
Stay tuned for next week's edition ... we will address every college parent's living nightmare, of trying to get a hotel room for Parent Weekends or Graduation Day that doesn't cost an absolute fortune. (Um, good luck!)
As always, feel free to get in touch via Twitter (here), or email ([email protected]), or by DM on LinkedIn -- to suggest story ideas, or ask money questions, or hire me as a freelancer, or sponsor this newsletter, or broadcast your job opening.
Until next time!
