Behind the Scenes: Crafting the 2024 Editions of The Paypers' Financial Crime and Fraud Report

I’m excited to share the story behind the Financial Crime and Fraud Report Editions at The Paypers —a journey that has been both inspiring and deeply meaningful.

Over the years, these reports have aimed to capture the evolving landscape of fraud detection and financial crime, spotlighting the threats, challenges, and solutions that fraud and risk management teams grapple with daily. We’ve worked with experts from solution providers, banks, industry associations, and consultants to provide invaluable insights into data intelligence, AI, and fraud prevention.

For the last 7 years, the conversations have often focused on key topics like APP fraud, identity theft, and account takeovers, as well as how to leverage AI and machine learning to combat them. And, of course, regulatory changes—whether it was PSD2, AMLD5, or now PSD3, Instant Payments, DORA, and the AI Act—have always been both a challenge and an opportunity for innovation.

What has always struck me is the passion within this community. Fraud fighters don’t see their work as just a job; it’s a mission. Their dedication, collaboration, and willingness to share best practices, challenges, and successes make this space incredibly dynamic and purposeful.

This year, in 2024, we took a new approach by splitting our report into two focused editions:

  1. Emerging Technologies and Trends in Identity Verification, KYC, and KYB Report 2024
  2. Next-Gen Tech to Detect Fraud and Financial Crime Report 2024

Emerging Technologies and Trends in Identity Verification, KYC, and KYB Report 2024
Next-Gen Tech to Detect Fraud and Financial Crime Report 2024

The first report explores digital identity wallets, KYB process effectiveness, and FaceTec’s innovative spoof bounty program. The second report covers vital topics like the rise of instant payments and threats, AI’s role in tackling fraud, and the importance of sharing fraud intelligence through frameworks like the EBA fraud taxonomy.

I’m incredibly grateful to be part of this journey. Writing about these topics makes me feel connected to a community committed to making the financial ecosystem safer and more resilient.

I invite you to download both reports, share your feedback, and continue the conversation with us. Let’s keep working together to create a more secure and transparent financial world!
